Suits By Chess

1. General Terms

Suits By Chess creates handmade custom fursuits and costume pieces to order. These terms apply to commission work unless a written agreement between Suits By Chess and the client specifically says otherwise.

All commission work is custom-made. Small differences between reference artwork and the finished physical piece are normal and are not automatically considered defects.

2. Before Commissioning

• Please make sure the commission is within your budget before accepting a quote.
• You must have the rights or permission to commission the character/design you submit.
• Reference artwork should clearly show the colors, markings, species, and important design details needed to build the piece.
• Design changes requested after work has begun may create additional costs.
• Suits By Chess may decline a commission or request clarification if a design cannot reasonably be produced as requested.

3. Quality & Handmade Work

• Every piece is handmade, so minor asymmetry, stitching variation, and other small handmade characteristics may occur.
• Normal variation is not considered a defect when it does not meaningfully affect appearance, function, or comfort.
• Any significant defect should be reported as soon as reasonably possible after delivery, with clear photos or video when appropriate.

4. Quotes & Commission Slots

• A quote is an estimate for the specific project described at the time it is issued.
• Adding features, changing the design, or substantially changing the scope can change the final price.
• A quote does not reserve a commission slot until the required payment has been received.
• Commission openings and available slots may be limited.
• If a quote expires or the project changes substantially, an updated quote may be required.

5. Payments

• Prices are listed in the currency shown on the current pricing page.
• A deposit or other initial payment may be required to begin work and secure a slot. The exact amount will be stated in the quote.
• The remaining balance must be paid according to the payment schedule agreed upon before completion/shipping.
• Work and/or shipping may be paused if an agreed payment is overdue.
• Payment-platform fees, currency-conversion fees, taxes, customs charges, and shipping costs are the client's responsibility when applicable and when stated in the quote.

6. Cancellations & Refunds

• Please commission only when you are comfortable with the quoted price and process.
• Because commission work is custom-made, refund eligibility can depend on the stage of production and costs already incurred.
• Deposits may be non-refundable when work has been reserved or begun, as stated in the individual quote.
• If Suits By Chess must cancel a project, any refund will be handled according to the amount of work completed and the circumstances of the cancellation.
• Returns of custom-made items are generally not accepted unless otherwise agreed in writing.

7. Communication & WIPs

• Please keep the contact information supplied with your commission current.
• Clients are expected to respond to important questions, approvals, and requests for measurements in a timely manner.
• Work-in-progress (WIP) updates may be provided during production depending on the project and stage.
• Delays caused by late replies, missing information, measurement issues, design changes, or delayed payments may extend the production timeline.
• Production times are estimates rather than guaranteed deadlines unless a specific written deadline has been agreed upon.

8. Materials & Color

• Physical materials cannot always reproduce digital artwork perfectly.
• Fur, fleece, minky, foam, resin, vinyl, thread, and other materials have limited color selections and may vary slightly between batches.
• Where practical, material/color choices can be confirmed before cutting or construction.
• Requested material substitutions may affect the final price or design.

9. Shipping

• Shipping is separate from the commission price unless your quote specifically includes it.
• The client is responsible for providing an accurate shipping address.
• Tracking information will be provided when available.
• International orders may be subject to customs fees, import taxes, or other charges imposed by the destination country. Those charges are the client's responsibility.
• Once a package has been handed to the carrier, carrier delays or losses may be outside the maker's direct control. Insurance and claims will be handled according to the shipping service used.

10. Warranty & Repairs

• If you receive an item with a significant construction defect, contact Suits By Chess promptly with photos and a description of the issue.
• Warranty/repair coverage applies only to issues caused by construction and does not cover ordinary wear, misuse, accidents, improper storage, or alterations made by the client or another person.
• Fit issues caused by inaccurate client-provided measurements or templates may not be covered.
• Repairs outside any stated warranty period may be available for an additional fee.

11. Buyer Responsibility

• The client is responsible for accurate measurements and any required templates or reference information.
• Fursuits can be hot, bulky, and have reduced visibility. Wearers should take appropriate breaks, stay hydrated, and use a handler when needed.
• The client is responsible for proper cleaning, drying, storage, and general care of the finished product.
• Do not expose costume materials to excessive heat, open flame, or other conditions that can damage them.
• Do not modify or repair a piece yourself if doing so could create a safety issue or affect warranty coverage; contact Suits By Chess first when in doubt.

12. Maker's Rights

• Suits By Chess reserves the right to refuse or cancel a commission when necessary, including in situations involving harassment, threats, fraudulent activity, or behavior that makes continuing the commission unreasonable.
• If a project is cancelled because of client conduct or failure to meet agreed responsibilities, refund eligibility will be determined under the cancellation terms above.
• Commission work cannot be copied, deconstructed, or reproduced for commercial purposes without permission from Suits By Chess.

13. Photos, WIPs & Portfolio

• Suits By Chess may photograph finished work for portfolio, website, social media, or promotional use unless a different written agreement has been made.
• Client-owned character artwork remains the client's property.
• Clients may share photos of their finished suit. Please give credit to Suits By Chess when practical.
• If a commission contains confidential or unreleased information, please discuss privacy requirements before work begins.

14. Intellectual Property

• The client's original character and character artwork remain the client's property unless otherwise agreed.
• Suits By Chess retains rights to its own original patterns, construction methods, artwork, branding, and other maker-created materials.
• Purchasing a costume does not transfer ownership of Suits By Chess's underlying patterns, construction designs, or branding.

15. Changes to These Terms

Suits By Chess may update these Terms of Service and pricing in the future. The version in effect when a commission is accepted will apply to that commission unless a later written agreement says otherwise.
